I just moved to Italy a week ago and I am getting SO frustrated not being able to understand anyone.... so like the title said, is there any fast, easy and free ways to learn Italian?

I made two purchases in Italy. These shoes, and a Pablo Escobar muscle shirt. *hangs head in shame*

I know that Italian and Spanish are somewhat similar. I took four years of Spanish in high school and have received about 11 hours of college credit for college Spanish courses by getting a 4 on the AP exam. So for someone with my background in Spanish, how difficult would it be to pick up Italian? Is it not as similar as I think it is or can I learn the basics pretty fast?

I might get confused because starting in August by fall or maybe next term like in January 09 Im going to take French as an elective.

I don't understand why so many white American people say Italian language is so beautiful. They also tend to say Italian food is their favorite and Italian people are attractive. Is it just white Americans' ignorance and lack of exposure to other cultures? Or is it that the concept of "Italian", though foreign, is "white" enough to appeal to even the most xenophobic white people?

I'm really interested in a deep undestanding of the language. I don't just want to know how to ask for directions etc. I've studied other languages before and would prefer a self-study program. Should I buy university textbooks, language software or other methods? I'd be particularly interested in the opinion of an Italian teacher. Is it reasonable to expect that a person can teach themself Italian and, if so, how would you recommend it me done? Thank you.
I'm a 3rd generation Italian and I have a 4'10" chubby Italian Mother who has helped me love my heritage. Unfortunately, after 3 generations, language is lost for me and my children are fractionally Italian. I want to learn the language well and take my family to Italy many times. Maybe they'll love it like I do.

I'm fairly proficient in French, that being so how long would it take to learn Italian? The idea to do so came to me when I realized every time I saw an Italian sentence I realized I could make out a lot of the vocabulary. I've never really had an interest in the language but if it only takes a little while to learn I might as well do so.
Say I was to practice for an hour everyday.

I'm learning Italian at home, so obviously I don't have a teacher. I'm getting a hang of the grammar, but I don't get a lot of practice speaking it. A trip to Italy is too expensive, and I don't know any Italians. Does anyone know something I can do to get more practice? Thanks.

I want to learn how to speak fairly fluent italian in 3 months or less. If anyone knows any good books and tapes to learn from. I don't want anything really expensive. If it takes a little longer to learn thats okay but I want to be fluent and leartn as fast as possible.

I need a spanish translation of italian food such as chicken parmagiana. I need 7 appetizers, 7 entrees, 7 desserts, and 7 drinks.

I have noted only recently that most (if not all) of the terms used in music such as 'Andante", "Presto" and others ae in Italian language. Why was that langguage chosen instead of another?

I have found a book written in Italian about my grandparents ancestral town in Italy. The book was written in 1828 and very few copies of it exist in Italian (and none in English). I want to find someone to translate the book into English for me:

1) What's the best way to find someone who is skilled at Italian-to-English translation and won't cost me a fortune?

2) If I want to publish the English translation of this book, can I safely assume no one owns the rights to it and therefore I can freely publish it?
