and which ones do you think are the closest and most different?
french, spanish, italian, portuguese, romanian.
to me, italian spanish and romanian all sound very similar, with key differences. portuguese and french to me have a more similar sound to them than they have with the other three. in terms of vocabulary, portuguese and spanish are almost identical and italian, romanian, and french have more similar words.

I live in the States but would love to improve my Italian/listen to their news/culture on my laptop. I googled around but had a hard time getting what I was looking for. Does anyone have a link for a radio station that streams live? (Preferably an NPR-structured station that has more news and talking than music, but at this point I'll take anything. Even better if their website has an English translation, although I can probably navigate anyhow.)

I want to get a little tattoo of the phrase
"I am who He says I am"
I looked it up on several translators, and they are all different.
I know that they probably aren't accurate so please help me.
* He is supposed to be a proper noun.
here are some of the answers i got when i used a translator.
Io sono colui che dice mi
Io sono colui che dice di i am
sono chi dice che sono

Hi guys, I just recently met a hot looking Italian girl who can only speak Italian. I really want to get to know her and go out with her at some point but the problem is I don't know how to speak Italian. I'm really desperate for a solution at this point so I'm about ready to try anything. I recently heard from a reliable souce that if I grow a a mustache I will instantly know how to speak Italian. Is this true? Has anybody tried this before?

I probably should have posted this in Italian, but I'm not sure if I would have said all this correctly. I finished taking an Italian language course this summer, and I need someone to talk in Italian to. I'm not very good and I make a lot of mistakes, but it would be extremely helpful to have someone correcting me. Could any Italians help me?

I am getting a female dog whos name is "Mia" (my/or mine in Italian....I think.) There are two phrases that I would like translated. And the online translators that I have used have all been a little different....The first one is "My beautiful girl" and the 2nd one is, "My beautiful angel."
I would like to know the proper way to say this to someone who is fluent in Italian.
Thank you so much for your help!!

I need the quote "One can not direct the wind, but adjust the sails" properly translated to Italian. It has to be correct though i have tried many translation site but the change words around and every site has a different answer, a college professor was supposed to do it but left for Italy before finishing it. Its for a tattoo so clarity and correctness is important. Thanks!

On my last night of vacation I met this amazing Italian man. We got along really well, and despite him knowing I had to leave the next day and despite the fact that he knew he wouldn't get further than kissing me, he stayed up all night just to talk to me. He also ended up telling me he loved me (in english, I don't know if that's important). Is this something I should consider as part of regular italian flirting, or is the typical male Italian sincere when he says this?

I am studying abroad in Rome next semester (Winter/Spring 2008) and need to pick up as much Italian as possible before I go. I was wondering what series of books and CDs would be best for learning practical, modern Italian quickly. For the audio part, I would prefer to have the old-school method of the word/phrase being repeated in both languages. It would also be helpful if the book had many insights into the culture, too.
Thanks!
