Hello.
I have a few questions for Italian-Americans (preferablly third/fourth/etc generation, not immigrants):
Do you speak Italian?
If so, did you learn it from your family, or at school?
If you don't speak it, do you wish you could?
Thanks to all those who reply.

I would love to learn italian as fast as possible, as I am in love with an italian man. The local university at which I am studying does not offer courses in italian, unfortunately. I've also attempted to locate italian classes in the community, which do not exist either. What is the next best way to learn italian? I can not afford much, the college classes would have been covered by my scholarship.

ok sooo these really cute italian guys were talking to me and my friend, and then all of a sudden they did this hand gesture: they took there index finger moved it in a circular fashion. I know that they like us, so it has to mean something flirty. What does it mean??????

How would you say this in Italian?
"Tomato" is not Italian, normally we would say "pomodoro."
(Or "...one would say" or something along those lines)
Thank you!

In my spanish class, after reading off my last name, my teacher said "Are you Italian?", and I said yeah. Then she said "Good, then it's in your blood". She was talking about the language. How would that be in my blood?

I'm learning Italian in school, and I want to talk to someone that speaks Italian well, and has English as a first language. If you speak Italian, either IM me on AIM (xTBKx13) or leave you info.

I hear that all three languages are somewhat similar because of their Latin roots. Would this fact enable me to learn one of two languages easier than learning something like Tagalog(although this has some words similar to Spanish words), Nihongo, or Mandarin?
I am hoping to take a language course in college, but I can't decide between the two

I know that this is America, and the official language is English, but in many ethnic communities, you'll always hear persons that can speak another language other English at home. Most Italian Americans that Ive known can only speak English, and not Italian.
It seems that only their ancestors could speak Italian, and not 21 Italian Americans.I ask this question because,I was always
interested in Italian culture of America with the Italian language
of America today.
Mexicans,Puerto Ricans,Asians, and some Africans have their
language, but not Italians, and I think Italians along with Greeks,
were more ethnic than most Caucasian Americans.
Italian is a beautiful language, but in my opinion, there are no Italian-Americans that can speak Italian.

I need a translation into Italian for a few words...I looked them up, but I'm not sure how reliable the dictionary was...tell me if these are right...
Virtuosity...Virtuosismo
Majesty.....Maestà
Grace/Gracefulness...Grazia
Expressiveness...Espressività
Thanks!
By the way, could you also include a phonetic pronunciation...I don't know how to pronounce these words...especially the accents?

I have a choice of learning either Spanish or French although I'm most interested in learning Italian. So if I knew French would it be easier for me to learn Italian from it ... or vise versa with Spanish. Which language would be better to learn if I was interested in learning Italian right after? Would either help the learning process for Italian or would there be no difference? Thanks

We saw a sign that said "I will never forget the eleventh" in Italy, as Americans we automatically assumed it was talking about 9/11 but now I'm curious if that's really what it is referring to.
