Romanian is definitely more similar to Italian than to Spanish or Portuguese.
French is more different even if the roots are the same.
Spanish, Italian and Portuguese are very close to each other. Most speakers of these languages can understand simple spoken language of the other two. French and Romanian are kind of the odd men out so to speak.
I’m Romanian and I can understand a lot of Italian and Spanish words. So I think Italian is more similar to Romanian and Spanish to Portuguese. French and Portuguese are similar by pronunciation.
I’m French speaker so..
Their differences are only found on pronounciaton
however they’re close at 90 or 70% on vocabulary!
French and Italian are closely related together ,especially on vocabulary, because their vocabulary is directly from Vulgar Latin , a dialect of Latin which was spoken through Italy and France.
Spanish and Portuguese are closely related together , they both are grouped into the "Ibero-Romance" group , but this group does not include Catalan , which is member of the Group Gallo-Romance (as French and Occitan).
Romanian is an eastern Romance language , its vocabulary is close to French and Italian (ex: in Romanian "Hi" is "Salut" exactly like French) , but it’s also different in several points. For me , Romanian sounds very close to Italian , more than Spanish.
Really not similar at all.
Alot of people get confused with the accents of each language and thats why they think they sound similar.
But yes, they do all originate from the same language which would have been spoken in earlier times.
The vocabulary is very different.
