Every time I have a question about Italian language I have to use yahoo answer which is a beautiful service, but it would be so much faster if I could just type quick questions here and there to people online instead. I am willing to also help with English as an exchange.

Why is it that in most Italian communities outside of Italy, the Italian language quickly dies out? What is the reason for this? Italians are so close-knit and we always so proud of being Italian. Even in USA you see all the proud Italians....but how did the language die out like that?
I find it very disappointing as well that in a country like Argentina where over half the population is Italian that the Italian language never gained any sort of importance.
All other diasporas speak their languages

Italy has many dialects but the main language is Standard Italian.
1) In which region/area was Standard Italian originally spoken?
Where does the Standard Italian language originate from?
2) Is it true that most young Italians only speak Standard Italian rather than their local dialects?
3) When did "Standard Italian" become a predominant language in Italy?

I know some of the Italian language, I know how to count and can say the colours, as well as most of the months. I have recently developed a high interest in learning the language better and to become at least semi-fluent, though I hope to achieve fluency. My question is this: If you have learnt the language to this level, how long did it take you, what did you do to learn it, and how difficult would you say it was? ***SERIOUS ANSWERS ONLY PLEASE***

I was just wondering because I'm taking a Latin course and studying about Roman culture which is in Rome. Which Rome is in Italy. So I was just wondering if the Latin language is similar to the Italian language or if it's the same thing.
Please give me your view on this. Thanks!

If you had to give it a percentage, what would you say the Italian language and Spanish are similar.
The reason why I'm asking is that there are a lot of Spanish words in Italian vocabulary, or the other way around.
By the way, which language is older than the other because one had to copy the other since there are a lot of similar words and sounds.

I live in the USA and I'm currently learning how to speak Italian. Watching Italian language films have helped a great deal, so I've been renting them from Netflix like crazy.
However I've exhausted their small selection of Italian pix and now I'm scratching the bottom of the barrel.
Does anybody know of any resources on the net for Italian language DVDs that can be played on American NTSC DVD players?
